Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous says that while Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a very strong vision, building a strong team and carefully vetting creative ideas is what allowed that to take shape. Though the game’s visual aesthetic is very distinctive, D’Astous says that refinement was just as important as the original inspiration. “It was trial and error at certain points, and it’s during the process of the stage-gating process that, well, this seems …

Though a European trailer for No Heroes Allowed, the third game in the What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? series, was released during Gamescom, news of a North American release remained up in the air (instead of buried in a hastily-dug dungeon, where it belonged). SCEA has revealed plans to release the game, but did not offer up a date for the God of Destruction’s resurrection.

No Heroes Allowed offers 100 daily dungeon design challenges, along with a new cooperative play mode that stars Badman and his daughter, Badmella. In the new addition, two players collaborate to dig a deadly, devious and dangerous dungeon.

When speaking with Eurogamer, Capcom’s Keiji Inafune stated that they want Dead Rising to knock the Resident Evil franchise off of it’s throne and become Capcom’s new number one IP.

“The goal for Dead Rising 2 is to replace the Resident Evil franchise and become number one IP within Capcom,” he said. Earlier today, it was confirmed by Keiji himself that we would be seeing the first info on Resident Evil 6 shortly. In an exercise of redundancy, he also said that if Dead Rising 2 sells well, there will be a Dead Rising 3.

“Until Dead Rising 2 sells we probably can’t start talking about spin-offs, if it’s received pretty well, yes we would consider a sequel. But at the moment we just don’t know.” were his precise words.

Dead Rising 2 will be released on September 28th in the Americas and September 24th in Europe for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version, however, doesn’t release in Europe until September 28th.

U.S. Army Bans Sale Of EA’s New Medal Of Honor

by Salat on September 3, 2010

Soldiers love playing video games in their off hours, but if they want to play EA's new Medal of Honor, they might have trouble finding it. The game has been banned from sale at all stores located within Army and Air Force installations.

Previously placed orders and reservations are either being canceled or moved to stores located off base or post. Apparently the game was pulled because of its “depictions of Taliban fighters engaging American troops.”

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service's Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella recently told Kotaku, “Out of respect to those we serve, we will not be stocking this game. We regret any inconvenience this may cause authorized shoppers, but are optimistic that they will understand the sensitivity to the life and death scenarios this product presents as entertainment. As a military command with a retail mission, we serve a very unique customer base that has, or possibly will, witness combat in real life.”

Sounds like a sticky situation to us. What do you guys think?

OnLive Getting WiFi Beta

by Salat on September 3, 2010

OnLive, the cloud-based gaming service that launched in the US in June, is now looking to allow its users to use the system over WiFi.

When it launched in June, OnLive required a wired connection. However, COO Mike McGarvey says,

Wi-Fi support has been the most requested feature among OnLive members, so we made it a top development priority and were able to roll out a beta version ahead of schedule. We’re continuing to add new features and enhance the service, as well as expand the list of top new release games.

They’ll also be offering a 50% discount on all games this weekend (Sept. 4-6), as well as extending the Founding Members Program that allows you to get one year free and a second year at .95 a month through Dec. 31, 2010.

It will be interesting to see how the WiFi beta goes, and how gaming performance is affected once the wire goes away. If you give it a try, be sure to come back and let us know.

Wishlist And Ideas For Nazi Zombies In Black Ops
Wakadestroyer94, like many of you, are fans of CoD zombies. In this post he provides Treyarch with a few suggestions of what he would like to see in Black Ops.

Digital Distribution Vs. Retail
"I hear a lot of people say things like: 'The disk is dead,' or 'Digital distribution is the way of the future.' But one GIO article says: 'Discs Not Dead? Survey Says Physical Media Still Rules'. So what makes us gamers prefer disks over digital distribution (DD) or vice-versa? Well let's look at some things that separate the two." Are physical disks here to stay? Check out ttam01's post and join the discussion.

Days of My Gaming Life Part Two: Penny Arcade
"While you may protest that the online gaming of today is still as good, but I say no. All of the personality of plinking your pocket change into an arcade machine has changed to pushing a button and playing with whoever you want. Why convenience is good, alot of the fun of gaming with friends has all but disappeared." Do you agree with Gamebeast23456? Check out his post where he relives his early gaming days.

Saint's Defining Moments in the World of Video Games…
"Well, clearly defining 'Next Big Thing' moments in the history of gaming is going to depend on a few factors and be a purely opinionated topic. In all likelihood, what I think are defining moments won’t necessarily be what others think are defining moments. But since I’m the guy pushing the keys here, well…here’s my thoughts on the subject." Saint lists a few key gems in gaming history.

Editor blogs you may have missed:

Journey through press conferences with Adam, Joe watches Far Cry during Bad Video Game Movie Night, Reiner recommends Batman stories you should read after playing Arkham Asylum and proves that mankind has gone too far with Ferrari World.

Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer has been plagued by cheaters taking advantage of glitches, and Black Ops developer Treyarch has taken notice. In a recent interview, the game's online director Dan Bunting made it clear the company has a special weapon ready for players who try to cheat their way up the ranks in Black Ops: the ban hammer.

Bunting told Nowgamer that Treyarch is well aware of the impact cheating has had on the Call of Duty series, stating it has "diminished the reputation of the franchise in a lot of people's eyes." Luckily, Treyarch has plans in place to deal with any potential problems. "We have a lot of anti-cheating, anti-boosting stuff going on behind the scenes, so we are monitoring that…We're going to have a very heavy hand in the online security of our game." He added, “Cheating won't pay. It'll just bring down the ban hammer.”

This should come as welcome news to Modern Warfare 2 fans. Treyarch has gotten a lot of flak from gamers in the past as being a developer that just pumps out sequels to other studio's franchises, but I have to say, everything I've read about Black Ops has been promising. We'll bring you more on the game as we approach its November 9 release date.
