Nintendo's E3 lineup was soaked in nostalgia, but it appears that Donkey Kong Country Returns won't be strictly sticking to series tradition. While its visual style and gameplay looks extremely familiar to the SNES classics, water levels will stay in the past.
Kensuke Tanabe is a Nintendo manager working with Retro on the title and stated that the old water stages "felt slow… It just wasn't the kind of gameplay we were looking for."
In the interview with Kotaku, he also shoots down the possible return of crocodile enemies. It appears that King K. Rool will be completely replaced by the new Tiki bad guys. Luckily, they have the same propensity for banana theft. Nothing drives a story forward like banana theft.

If you’re thirsty for an MMO experience, don’t bother with buying an Xbox 360. It appears that once again, a studio can’t come to terms with Microsoft. Square Enix, developer of Final Fantasy XI for the 360, has joined the list of studios that can’t break through negotiations for a forthcoming MMO.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Final Fantasy XIV Online director Hiromichi Tanaka pegged, of all things, the Xbox 360′s online service as the reason why Final Fantasy XIV, it’s latest MMO, isn’t coming to the system.
“The main reason why we couldn’t go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system,” he told the publication during E3. “[Live is] different to the normal Internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice.”
There’s nothing forward-looking, no cheeriness from Tanaka-san. Final Fantasy XIV Online for the 360 might have been a project, but it is no longer. ”Microsoft has a different point of view,” Tanaka continued, “they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We’re still talking to… We couldn’t come to an agreement on Xbox Live,” he said.
What Tanaka isn’t mentioning is money. But it’s plain that Microsoft’s MMO policies, both financial and technological, are too nasty for studios to work with.

2K Sports made the decision last year to place all of its hockey eggs in one basket: the Wii. 2K will only put out NHL 2K11 on Wii, in the hopes of re-evaluating its franchise before deciding whether or not to bring it back to other consoles.
The first thing we were shown at E3 were the motion-based controls, which provide 1:1 movement through MotionPlus. This will give players real-time deking, puck juggling and even the ability to break sticks this time around. While I was unable to get my hands on it to check the feel, everything looked copacetic as the 2K rep demoed the game. I didn’t notice any inconsistencies or problems with the control scheme as he played.

We've featured a month's worth of Infamous 2 stories on the site on top of our cover story in the magazine, but there's no one better equipped to talk about the game than it's creators themselves. We had a chance to talk to game director Nate Fox and Sucker Punch manager/producer Brian Fleming about the game, and we brought our cameras along. Take a look below to hear the two discuss the upcoming adventure of Cole MacGrath.

Microsoft might not be the only hardware manufacturer looking to score Hulu for its online service. Bloomberg is reporting, via two sources, that Sony is in talks with Hulu to bring its self-titled TV-streaming service to PSN–and soon. Purportedly, the sides are close on terms and a deal could be announced next week.
Great, but what will it cost? The subject of pricing is starting to get sketchy thanks to all the rumors swirling about Hulu’s future plans, but Bloomberg believes it will carry a subscription fee. The current idea is that it will probably cost .95 just like the Xbox 360 version of the software is rumored to be.
Strangely enough, Hulu is apparently also in talks with other TV companies. The same sources report that Hulu is courting CBS, Viacom and Time Warner for access to their shows. It’s especially odd because, if you remember, licensing issues stemming from the current crop of Hulu partners may have been the reason Hulu wasn’t unveiled for the Xbox 360 at E3 2010. Not that we needed the announcement or anything. Skittles the tiger and ESPN were quite enough.
