Ninja Theory is using motion capture for cutscenes, but every frame of Dante’s arse kicking has been lovingly rendered the old fashioned way for DmC: Devil May Cry.

Studio head Tameem Antoniades mentioned the manual animation in a Capcom blogcast, noting that motion capture wouldn’t bring quite as much character to the combat.

Antoniades also reiterated that Capcom is collaborating closely on the game’s action, even down to frame-by-frame advice.

DmC will feature the same combo ranking system of its precursors, but explained more clearly to the player, so casual button mashers have a better chance of working up to serious scores with advanced moves like jump-cancelling and parrying.

Dante’s angel and demon forms will be changeable in real time, allowing players to string together combos from eahc moveset, and each form will have unique weapons.

DmC: Devil May Cry is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but has not been dated.

Thanks, Siliconera.

It’s April 16th, and that means we’re just under 2 months away from E3 2012. No time like the present to start planning accordingly, and Microsoft and Sony are making that easier by posting their scheduled press conference times. Microsoft goes first, with their presser scheduled for Monday, June 4 at 10.00am PDT. Sony is later in the day at 6pm PST. Presumably we’ll be hearing from the other big companies soon enough.

Microsoft and Sony’s pressers may prove to be interesting. Both companies have been dogged by rumors of next gen hardware on the horizon, which would be unveiled at E3. Though both Microsoft has expressly denied any such plans, at least for 2012, that could turn out to be nothing but misdirection. At the very least, microsoft might want to kick off their first post CES E3 with big news. Here’s hoping it’s a free console, like they gave away in 2010, and if so, here’s hoping my bosses assign me to the presser.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be behind the scenes of a despotic government’s propaganda wing – I mean, besides one designed by Peter Molyneux – may we point you to Republia Times, a flash game designed to look exactly like an educational PC game from 1985, created by Lucas Pope of Ratloop.

In Republia Times, you’re the editor of a state-run propaganda newspaper in the wake of a recent revolution. At game start, you’re informed that your family has been captured for ‘safekeeping’, and your job is to create newspaper issues favorable to the government in order to increase loyalty. Raise loyalty enough and your family is safe; fail, and they’re eliminated, as, it’s implied, are you. Each round is a single publishing day; Succeed for enough days, and things start to get complicated.

Anyway, say good by to your afternoon. Play it now!.

The trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning‘s second downloadable expansion, Teeth of Naros, has been released. Teeth of Naros will be available starting on April 17 on Xbox Live for 800 points and PlayStation® etwork, Origin and Steam for $ 9.99.

In the expansion, players will visit a harsh, forgotten land called the Teeth of Naros, named after an ancient troll god, and encounter the Kollossae, a devout race of giants.

Check out the trailer:

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a solid action RPG, and this trailer has me excited for Teeth of Naros. The Kollossae look suitably colossal, and the new areas are epic.

Will you pick up Teeth of Naros?

FIFA Street returned to the top of the charts when sales were tallied in the UK last week, scoring its fourth first place finish. Chart-Track notes the title has now matched the rank history of the original FIFA Street, which also owned the hard charting streets for four weeks back in 2005.

Overall, though, it was actually a pretty quiet week in the battle for rankings, with the entirety of the top ten playing musical charts. Last week’s chart-topper, Kinect Star Wars, was not the game more people were looking for, and slipped down to fourth.

The only new release last week to break the top 40 was Pandora’s Tower from Nintendo, which debuted in spot 38. Check out the UK top ten after the break.
