New achievements have popped up in Batman: Arkham City has led people to believe that the next DLC pack is a story mission involving Harley Quinn and Robin. While we still don’t have any evidence (other than the achievements) that Robin will be making an appearance, the Arkham City Twitter people tweeted a new image that all but confirms we’ll be seeking the Joker’s put-upon and oft abused ladyfriend. Copying the image has been disable, which we’ll honor, but you can see it here. It shows nothing but the silhouette of two legs clad in very familiar boots, with a very familiar hammer between them. And yes, suggestive. Duh. We’ve played these games before.

So yeah, I’m looking very forward to this. A lot.

Two incredible surprises await: the first surprise is that there apparently weren’t already wind-up Pac-Man and Ghost Monster toys, and the second is that there are totally wind-up Pac-Man and Ghost Monster toys now.

Retailer Entertainment Earth (where Tomopop discovered the toys) lists them for release next month, at a $ 9.99 price point. However, Amazon has it right now through a third party seller, which means we could be re-enacting Pac-Man with our cats as unwitting participants in just days.

In a “good news/bad news” sort of situation, I always like starting with the good news first. Maybe it’s just me, but it makes the bad news easier to stomach. So, try this on for size: The Fighting Fantasy game books were originally first published in 1982, starting with The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and blossoming into a full-blown series of gamebooks. What’s a gamebook? Well, imagine one of those choose your own adventure novels from when you were a kid (You do remember those, right?) except with more interactivity. Instead of simply turning to page 92 to to jump across a pit or turning to page 59 to go down the tunnel to the right, you need to roll actual dice to do a skill check to see if you can make it across the pit.

This adds a great element of randomness to things, and it feels more like you’re playing the book instead of just making arbitrary decision along various branching paths. I like ‘em a lot, and if you’re a fan of fantasy novels I’d go as far as saying this whole series is a “must-have,” especially considering at the current sale price of 99¢ you can buy the whole set for less than one dead tree version will run you.

Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, $ 0.99
– Deep in the caverns beneath Firetop Mountain lies an untold wealth of treasure, guarded by a powerful Warlock – or so the rumor goes. Several adventurers like yourself have set off for Firetop Mountain in search of the Warlocks hoard. None has ever returned. Do you dare follow them?

Fighting Fantasy: Deathtrap Dungeon

Fighting Fantasy: Deathtrap Dungeon, $ 0.99
– Deep in the caverns beneath Firetop Mountain lies an untold wealth of treasure, guarded by a powerful Warlock – or so the rumor goes. Several adventurers like yourself have set off for Firetop Mountain in search of the Warlocks hoard. None has ever returned. Do you dare follow them?

Fighting Fantasy: Citadel of Chaos

Fighting Fantasy: Citadel of Chaos, $ 0.99
– The Citadel holds a dark and dangerous peril for anyone foolhardy enough to venture through its gruesome gates. And yet venture you must for your mission lies at the heart of the Citadel, with the dread sorcerer, Balthus Dire!

City of Thieves

City of Thieves, $ 0.99
– Terror stalks the night as Zanbar Bone and his bloodthirsty Moon Dogs hold the prosperous town of Silverton to ransom. YOU are an adventurer and the merchants of Silverton turn to you in their hour of need.

Fighting Fantasy: Creature of Havoc

Fighting Fantasy: Creature of Havoc, $ 0.99
– You begin this adventure not knowing where you are or who you are. All you know is that you are some kind of creature of instinct, understanding little. During the course of the adventure, it may be possible for you to begin to control your bestial nature, to find out more about yourself, and even to learn your destiny. But even if you know all this, success is by no means certain, for the traps and terrors of Trolltooth Pass are many … Are you ready — to become the Creature of Havoc?

It doesn’t matter what order you play them in, so just download and start with whatever sounds the most interesting.

Now, the bad news. Big Blue Bubble, the developers responsible for bringing these gamebooks to the App Store, are on the verge of having their licensing agreements expire. It doesn’t sound like they’re being renewed either, so once these are gone, they’re gone. This also means there won’t be any updates for any of them, so don’t expect any Retina iPad enhancements, or tweaks/bug fixes if future iOS upgrades break the apps.

We’ve yet to hear when the licensing agreement actually expires, but needless to say, you should jump on these sooner rather than later if you want them.

Geralt the Witcher needs plenty of cash to prove his innocence, and sellers hate offering more than 40 Orens for even the best items. Don’t bother selling your extra items, instead follow our guide below and use this glitch to unlock these mini-games earlier in the chapter. Prepare your wallet, and don’t forget to save often, because we’ll tell you where to find all the money you’ll ever need in The Witcher 2 for X-box 360.

Check out our full playthrough of The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition with the full walkthrough. For more secrets, tips and tricks, browse over to our cheats page.

Easy Money Glitch

  1. Starting in Chapter 2 with Roche, you’ll arrive in the War Camp.
  2. At the camp, if you want to start practicing your arm-wrestling skills for later, talk to the local Blacksmith outside the Canteen. There are more arm-wrestlers, but you won’t need to challenge them all. You can even skip the Blacksmith if you want to.
  3. Next, leave for the King’s inner camp, where you’ll find the arm-wrestling champion near a fire. Talk to him, fulfilling every topic, then ask about arm-wrestling.
  4. The champ will tell you to climb the ranks by defeating others, but the option to wrestle will still be available. Select “Let’s Go” to start the mini-game.
  5. For this mini-game, you can bet 100 Orens instead of the usual 30. You can also repeat this mini-game as often as you want, making back your money every time.
  6. The arm-wrestling champion in Chapter 1, named Bart Bargee, and the champion in Chapter 2, named Adam Pangratt, can both be fought as often as you want. You’ll be able to earn 200 Orens every 20 seconds or so.
  7. Goodluck, and save often if you’re afraid of losing!

by Salat on April 20, 2012 · 0 comments

Munich / Berlin, April 03, 2012 Munich-based venture capital firm Target Partners (www.targetpartners.de), in collaboration with High Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and Estag Capital, has taken a financial stake in GameGenetics (www.gamegenetics.com), as part of a series-A financing round. The financial investment is in the seven-digit Euro figure, and will support the Berlin-based aggregator and distributor of free-to-play online games in its planned expansion into the UK and US markets.

GameGenetics GmbH enables game developers and publishers to market more effectively and to speed up their global growth. The company also supports traffic and media partners across the globe with a first-class line of games. GameGenetics works with all the big-name game publishers like Bigpoint, Travian Games, and Ubisoft, marketing a portfolio of approximately 150 high-quality browser and client-based games in over 30 languages. With its B2C portal, POPMOG (www.popmog.com), GameGenetics also operates its own central platform for gamers, who can access the continuously-growing portfolio of popular online games there. The company now plans to partner with more British and US portals and traffic partners, supplying them with a varied portfolio of games and the expertise to optimize traffic monetization.

Berthold von Freyberg, a partner at Target Partners, is convinced of the firm’s strong growth potential: “The extensive portfolio of free-to-play titles, the strong network of traffic and media partners, and the global approach are truly unique. GameGenetics unifies in a single place all the elements that a successful startup needs: The right team, innovative technology, impressive growth, and the opportunity to form and develop a big market segment.”

GameGenetics was founded in 2009 in Berlin. The company’s team of 25 is led by founder and CEO Alexander Piutti: “We are happy that Target Partners, one of Germany’s leading early-stage venture capital firms, shares our vision. Together, we will continue our successful course, strongly expanding our distribution strategy, and further strengthening our competency in the area of marketing technology for online games. This investment comes at a key time for us when we are actively expanding our client base in the UK and US.”

Markus Kreßmann, senior investment manager at HTGF, summarized the series-A engagement: “In 2011, GameGenetics had an average monthly revenue growth rate of more than 30 percent, and was able to greatly expand its games portfolio, which is an impressive team success. High-Tech Gründerfonds, as the previous lead investor, sees in Target Partners the ideal partner to continue that success story.”

Maxis vice-president Brett Barry has told VG247 that SimCity is a fully-loaded relaunch of the series rather than a fifth game in the franchise.

Barry was speaking to video editor Sam Clay at the EA European Showcase in London earlier this week, where the game was showcased. Behind the scenes chatter pointed to it looking ‘very hot’ at the event.

Get Sam’s chat with Barry above, where it touches upon on the game’s new GlassBox engine, politics within the game and more.

Some achievements require skill, but others just need dumb luck. One of the hardest achievements to get in The Witcher 2, “Poker!” can take hours and hundreds of attempts — or you can give our special method a try. Give up on endless repetition and learn how to pull skill out of this game of luck.

To get a full look at the new enhanced edition of The Witcher 2, check out our walkthrough. For more secrets, tips and tricks, browse over to our cheats page.

Achievement Unlocked

  • Poker! (30 Points):
    Roll five-of-a-kind at dice poker.

Poker! Achievement Guide

  1. To make this achievement easier, initiate a Dice Poker game and move all five dice into the bottom left corner of the board.
  2. You’ll want to stack all five dice into each other, they’ll clip into each other if you barely move the right stick while your selection cursor is against the corner. All five dice should look like one single block.
  3. With all five dice clipping through each other, when you throw them, just barely move the stick. Make sure to do so outside the oval indentation, on the raised edges outside the center. If you do it right, the dice will drop and barely move.
  4. Doing so will often result in 2-4 of the dice staying the same number. Select and throw only the non-matching dice afterward and follow the same method to increase your chances of rolling the same number.
  5. While this method isn’t foolproof, it will increase your chances of completing this achievement before 100 rolls. To avoid your opponent dropping out of the match, lower your bets and keep them as low as possible.
  6. Note: Some have reported that tapping left instead of right increased their chances of stacking dice. Give it a try, it can be tricky at first.
