Those eager for a real Fender Squier guitar that's compatible with Rock Band 3 still need to wait until March of next year to get their hands on the instrument, but Fender has finally revealed how much money they'll need to save up in that time.

According to a post on Fender's website, the guitar/controller will be sold for $ 279.99. You can sign up on the site to receive details via e-mail as they become available, and there's also a video on the site showing it off in action. Preorders for the instrument will begin on January 1, 2011.

Anyone eager to pay this hefty sum for a chance to actually learn music while playing video games? I've been considering it, but nearly $ 300 is a lot to ask for something I'm not 100 percent sure on yet.

When a film is too gross, dirty, or disgusting to have a regular trailer do it justice, oftentimes studios will create a special "red band" (i.e. R-rated) trailer that only appears online. This has never really been an issue with video games for obvious reasons, but that hasn't stopped Square Enix from creating a special "Red Band" trailer for their upcoming PSP hack-and-slash, Lord of Arcana.

The trailer shows some of the stuff you'll be able to do in the game when it releases next year, most of which is slicing up monsters in some form or another. Also, there's a lot of blood, so enjoy that.

Fender has announced a release date for its Squier Stratocaster guitar which is playable with Rock Band 3 and teaches you to actually play the instrument, because, well, it is an actual guitar.

Since it is an actual instrument, it won’t be cheap, but it will run you about the same as a typical electric guitar, albeit not a Harmony or anything. Those were cheap back in the day, and sounded it too.

It also requires that you purchase a Mad Catz MIDI Pro-adapter to use it with Rock Band 3, which will run you $ 40.

The Squier is to be used during RB3’s Pro Mode only, and when you feel like actually rocking out, it becomes not only a MIDI instrument and can be hooked up to an amplifier.

You can get the full set of stats for the instrument through here.

Fender’s Squier Stratocaster and Guitar Controller will be up for pre-order on January 1 and is set for release March 1 and will run you $ 280.

Check out the video for it below, courtesy of RockBandAide.  It looks harder than hell. Our fingers start getting tangled just watching it.

Here’s a hypothetical situation you or someone you know has probably experienced at some point in your life: You and a friend are out at a restaurant or bar, and Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” comes on the radio. You remark how this is one of your favorite Rock Band songs, but your friend replies that this song, criminally, is not part of the Rock Band catalog. You argue about this point all night, ruining your dinner, drinks and, ultimately, friendship.

There’s another way — a better way, friends. A new, unofficial and free iPhone tool from developer Three Brothers Apps titled “RB Song List” lets you scan through the game’s downloadable catalog on the go. Using this app, you could have resolved this hypothetical argument in seconds, and then spent the rest of the night talking about why the hell “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” isn’t available on the Rock Band Store.

It looks like the relationship that Harmonix developed with Yoko Ono and the Lennon estate is paying off. Today, MTV Games revealed that the legendary Beatle's classic solo album Imagine will be added to the lineup of Rock Band 3 DLC. It will be up on the Rock Band 3 store shortly after the game launches on October 26th, along with tracks by the Doors, Billy Joel, and Bon Jovi.

"The songs on John Lennon's Imagine run the gamut from beautiful piano-driven ballads like ‘Jealous Guy’ to all-out guitar rockers like ‘Gimme Some Truth’,” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks. "It's an incredible musical statement, and a real workout on keyboard, guitar and vocals in Rock Band 3. We're very excited to confirm it as one of the first downloads for our new game, and to help our fans celebrate John's 70th birthday with its release."

Obviously, this is great news for music fans, as Imagine is a classic record by any measure. And, we're sure John is chuckling somewhere that fans will be able to play his vicious Paul McCartney dis — "How Do You Sleep?" — in the very same franchise that immortalized the Beatles in video game form.

Indie game composer Daniel "dannyB" Baranowsky will get three of the tracks he produced for recent platforming hit Super Meat Boy onto Rock Band Network for Rock Band 3.

In collaboration with Fairwood Studios, Super Meat Boy's Level 1 Boss Theme, Level 2 Retro Theme, and Level 3 Theme will get remixed and released. Final track names and arrangements will be announced in the future.

According to Fairwood's website: "The tracks were specifically selected both as an introduction to Daniel's compositional work and to reflect the difficulty of Super Meat Boy's platforming in the plastic instrument field."

The tracks will be available for $ 0.99 each early 2011.
