The LA Times reports that a San Fernando resident shopping for games at a Walmart Black Friday sale was pepper-sprayed by what he called a “competitive shopper.” Matthew Lopez, 18, was attacked inside the store. By the time he got to the games section, the display was torn down and employees were having to pick up copies of games and DVDs that were scattered on the floor. Another customer said that screaming began when 100 people started shoving over Xbox 360s and Wiis.

EA is getting into the Black Friday spirit, too, and they’re offering up plenty of deals across their entire catalog on Origin. Most notably, they’re offering Battlefield 3 for $ 30 and Batman: Arkham City for $ 25. Also, Xbox 360 and PS3 copies of Need for Speed: The Run are going for $ 30, while PC copies are going for $ 20. Seriously.
So it looks like Origin might just be able to worm its way into your heart after all.

If you’ve had your eye on the Think Geek iCade either for you or as a gift for someone else this holiday season, Think Geek’s Black Friday sale should make that purchasing decision a little easier. For a limited time, the iCade will be available for $ 59.99, down from the original price of $ 99.99.
If you’re new to the whole iCade thing, you can find absolutely everything you’d ever want to know about the device by heading on over to our iCade page. You’ll find closer looks at the iCade, as well as an exhaustive list of supported games, any associated reviews, and any iCade angle articles.
The Black Friday sale, somewhat obviously, only lasts for the day. It’s also worth considering that there was a time when iCades were in fairly short supply, so it’s hard to say just how many Think Geek has laying around for sixty bones. I don’t really see them getting much cheaper than this anytime soon either.
Also, the Joystick-It iPad Arcade Stick is selling for $ 8.99 down from $ 24.99.

Well, we suspected it was coming, and now it’s here: the Steam Black Friday sale of sorts. Every day through Sunday we’ll get a new set of deals. Right now, you can get Black Ops for $ 30, Duke Nukem Forever for $ 6, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 for $ 5, Orces Must Die for $ 3.74 and Portal 2 for $ 10. Also, the entire 2K catalog is at least 33% off, which means you can get NBA 2K12 for about $ 20.
Just give in already. Buy some stuff. You know you want to.

Apple has been doing a variety of crazy promotions on iTunes for, well, basically forever. Free songs given away in all kinds of ways, free apps through Starbucks, and now, apparently, promo code generation through Facebook? I don’t understand the dark rituals taking place behind the scenes to extract promo codes from the ether, but here’s what I do know:
Following this link and mashing a few buttons on Facebook will get you a promo code to download Halfbrick’s Jetpack Joyride [99¢] for free. It’s the first of a new promotion process courtesy of Apple, and I can’t wait to see what else they end up giving away for free. Now, I’ve got no idea either how long this promotion is going to last, when it’s going to rotate to something else, and how many promo codes there are to give away. This news is so hot off the press I burnt my hands.
Seriously, we love Jetpack Joyride and there is absolutely no reason to not take advantage of this offer. Also, it seems you can even generate a code if you already own the game, and then give that code to someone else.
Exciting times we live in.

We just talked about the Prestige Shop in Modern Warfare 3, and that should have everyone chomping at the bit for prestige tokens. Activision hears the chomping, and they’re making this weekend a double XP weekend in Black Ops, which means you should have plenty of time to prestige one more time at least before MW3 hits in a couple weeks.
You get a full four days to play, as the weekend starts at 10am Pacific on Friday and ends at 10am Pacific on Tuesday. What a crazy four days that’s going to be, amirite?

Treyarch’s Phil Tasker, Alex Conserva, Dan Bunting, and “Lvl 1 N00b” David Vonderhaar (in costume, with a cardboard nameplate above his head and a full-sized Trollface mask) took the stage at Call of Duty XP this weekend to do a behind-the-scenes talk on Call of Duty: Black Ops‘ multiplayer game, showing off some work-in-progress and unreleased maps, and answering players’ questions about the game. Their well-scripted talk was interesting, though perhaps because most of the show is about the next game in the Call of Duty series, they didn’t end up going too in-depth on production secrets.
They did, however, explain a little bit about the way multiplayer maps were created for the game. Initially, the developers just sit down with pen and paper to design the map and the flow, and then the map goes through a series of playtesting stages, starting out with temporary art and textures, and then moving on to more tweaks and details as time goes on. The “Summit” map was shown off throughout this process — it started off as just two buildings on a rooftop, with an open path between them, but over time, the developers tried to open the map up a little more, and really show off to players that they were on a high mountaintop.
