You’ll probably want to call in sick for work the morning after Capcom brings the circus to Sydney.
The publisher is hosting a special Australian preview event on February 1 – the Super Ultimate Showcase – with a number of opportunities to go hands-on with first quarter releases titles and meet and greet star developers. VG247 will be there will bells on, but more excitingly, you can go too. Send your name and phone number to capcom.showcase@thq.com – tickets are limited, so please only register if you will be available on the evening of February 1, in Sydney, and are over 18.
Street Fighter x Tekken will be on the scene, lovingly chaperoned by Capcom USA’s Seth Killian, a figure so central to the franchise’s development that Street Fighter IV’s boss was named after him. Don’t ask him to play a round or two with you unless you’re wearing steel-plated trousers to protect your arse during its kicking. The Vita version of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will also be playable, but he’ll kick your arse there, too.
Also making an appearance is Mike Jones, producer of Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, the squad-based multiplayer shooter from Slant Six, and CyberConnect2′s Hiroshi Matsuyama and Kazuhiro Tsuchiya will both be in attendance, showcasing their baby, Asura’s Wrath. Capcom is also fronting a handful of classic arcade cabinets and even giving one away as part of ongoing festivities.
Sounds like a good night out, so be quick with that registration.
Capcom’s admitted some elements that form part of DMC will aim up against Platinum action title Bayonetta to the extent that both titles will be “squarely competing” with each another.
But Capcom US producer Alex Jones told Inside Xbox in the video below (via EG) there were other parts of the action reboot that would be completely different from that of Hideki Kamiya’s excellent 2010 effort.
“You always want to go out there and beat your competitor to some degree. There are places where we’re squarely competing with Bayonetta, and that’s at the: how does the game feel when it’s in your hand?” said Jones.
“We absolutely want the same fluidity of control that’s a standard setting at that level for them.
“The other areas, tone, storytelling, we’re offering a different experience from Bayonetta and we feel really good about that experience. Some areas we’re competing with them. Some areas we’re offering something different.”
But Ninja Theory creative boss Tameem Antoniades has said it ain’t a “like for like” battle between the two games.
“We’re adding elements to this game that haven’t existed in the DMC series before like the concept of the world being alive, trying to crush you and kill you, and Dante being able to rip apart the world and manipulate it,” he said.
“So there are areas outside of combat we’re adding.”
DMC is expected to launch this year on PS3 and 360.
Capcom’s teasing something in relation to Dead Rising. What it is, you tell us, but a post on the game’s Facebook wall through the guise of DR1 and DR2: Off The Record Frank West says he’s “getting packing for my new adventure – camera, notebook and baseball bat. What else would i need for a break in paradise?”
Dead Rising 3, innit. Or Dead Rising XBLA, Part Tres. Whatever.
Capcom Japan has filed a trademark for a game called E.X. Troopers in the US and Europe. Spotted by Siliconera, its sounds to us like a shooter where you will play a trooper of some sort. We have no creative thought as to what the initials E.X. would stand for, though. Maybe extreme? Extreme Troopers? If that’s the case, maybe it’s mechs. Who knows. As usual, we’ll send a mail. Thanks, Joystiq.
Villain, a bar in London’s Shoreditch neighborhood, is hosting a preview night of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 on Nov. 9, one week before the game is released and because that’s what an establishment called “Villain” does. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3will mark the first installment of the bar’s monthly “Ultimate Villain” night, which includes six screens for hands-on gameplay held inside of an aircraft fuselage with a car dangling from the ceiling, apparently.
If you’re of age and you’ll be in the Shoreditch area, RSVP to the event here, and if you won’t be — don’t fret. Everyone there will probably get too plastered to remember playing the game at all, which also sounds like a lot of fun, just in a different, headache and upset-stomach kind of way.
Capcom’s unveiled free post-launch DLC for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, a card-based mode called Heroes vs Herald. A team of heroes will fight against Galactus and his group, where a new card system will use new combo chains, projectile invincibility and more. There’s a video of it in action from NYCC below the break, via Joystiq.
Capcom today revealed a totally, uh, ultimate version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, a game that just came out a few months ago. I hope everyone who bought it is PISSED. Retailing for $ 39.99 and streeting in November, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will include 8 new stages and 12 new fighters. Officially confirmed so far are Hawkeye, Firebrand, Ghost Rider and Strider, but word is that the other newbies are Phoenix Wright, Vergil, Frank West and Nemesis for Capcom, and Dr. Strange, Rocket Raccoon, Iron Fist and Nova for Marvel.
Capcom has told Rely on Horror that it is aware fans prefer the traditional, horror-suspense gameplay of past Resident Evil games and it is looking to bring it back.
Speaking with the site during E3, a Capcom representative agreed that fans preferred the more horror-driven game, instead of the action-oriented turn the series has taken, and that fans will like the direction the development team is focusing on for the next Resident Evil game.
“We know that alot of fans want more horror back for the next one, the development team knows that as well and we read a lot of comments, messageboards, and ask for feedback, and there was a lot of critisism about RE5?s focus on action,” said the rep.
“I think that you’ll like the direction the dev team is shifting for the next one.”
Although, this statement doesn’t give away much, it’s safe to assume he meant that RE 6 might be returning to the series’ roots.
