Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, rumored to be coming to us in March, will be arriving sooner than that, as Konami today announced a February 21 release date for the game that might just make the 3DS worthwhile. Maybe.
This version of the game is much anticipated, and not just because it’s in 3D; it’ll have a couple new features, and if we’re lucky Para-Medic won’t f–king talk about movies so much when you’re trying to save your damn game. But I’m not holding out much hope for that.
That’s some interesting counter-programming; as you know, the PS Vita hits that week. We’ll see how well this works out for Konami.
If you’re looking to squeeze a little more fun out of those holiday titles, or if you’re craving some tower defense, the next batch of Xbox Live content is for you. Hot off the presses of CES comes two new products from ION: A redesigned version of the iCade that drops the surrounding cabinet, as well as a mobile version for the iPhone and iPod touch. Check it out:
ION has yet to release pricing or more specific release dates than “2012″ for the redesigned iCade, but the iCade Mobile will hit in Q2 for $ 100. Hopefully we’ll get some hands-on time at CES this week.
Update: Engadget, as noted by MacRumors, has updated their post on the new iCades with hands-on video of the handheld iPhone version, dubbed the iCade Mobile. Also, it looks like the pricing for iCade Mobile was incorrect, and the unit should be launching at $ 79.99 rather than $ 100.
Also noticed at the ION booth at CES is a new product called the iCade Jr. The iCade Jr. is similar to the original iCade for the iPad but is a much smaller version that will fit iPhone and iPod touch devices. It retains the faux arcade cabinet design of the original and features 4 buttons on the front deck as well as 4 buttons on the rear panel, as well as a pass-through for charging while in use.
The iCade Jr. unit on display was non-functional, but ION is shooting to have the new unit available this Spring for $ 49. More photos can be seen at the original Engadget posting.
Zeboyd Games radical 16-bit parody RPG, Chtulhu Saves the World, is coming to mobile devices this year. And sooner than you’d think. On Twitter, lead designer Robert Boyd says the studio held this announcement until work was almost finished, and he expects the game to hit at some point this quarter. Nice guy!
Meaningful details, like, how this version will control, if it’ll include any extras, or its price point aren’t being discussed at this time. A note on the game’s blog does say that more information is coming in the next few weeks, but since we’re so nosey we’ve reached out to Zeboyd for more anyway.
If you’ve played Breath of Fire or an old-school Final Fantasy, you’ll be able to get your head around Cthulhu‘s systems and mechanics pretty quickly. The awareness of what genre its in, the sharp improvements it makes, and the humor is what makes it pretty great. Here’s hoping the mobile ports rock just as hard.
Hey all — a quick note to kick off the New Year: the 2012 Independent Games Festival finalist announcements will now be made on Monday, January 10th for the Main Competition, and Friday, January 15th for the Student Competition. The reason? Renegade X: Black Dawn is inching toward release, and will get significantly closer in 2012 with the release of the game’s single-player demo on Jan. 28. Or so the trailer below says.
If you’re not up to speed, Renegade X is a mod-based spiritual successor to Command & Conquer: Renegade that currently has a beta running on Unreal Tournament 3 — which you can check out on its website right here. Renegade X itself runs on Unreal Engine 3 and looks pretty great; it seems like when the demo hits, we’ll all be treated to quite a nice FPS time.
Now that North America has a confirmed release for Xenoblade Chronicles, it’s time to start pining non-stop for another Wii RPG. It’s either that or be happy, and we can’t have that.
Nintendo has officially dated the European release of Hironobu Sakaguchi’s The Last Story. It’ll be released on February 24, giving Euro players the chance to finish two of the “Operation Rainfall” games before Xenoblade even comes out in North America.
The action-RPG sets features both a single-player story mode, about a mercenary named Zael aspiring to become a knight, and online modes including co-op and deathmatch for six players.
