The long awaited return of Twisted Metal. It has loomed over us like so many dead pedestrians in a 300 car pile up on an overpass in South LA. But the long dark rush hour of the soul is almost at an end. The demo we played last April blew us away, and despite delays and David Jaffe failing to end 2011 with a spectacular stream of profanity, we still cannot wait to play. That wait ends on Valentine’s day, and to get you prepared, the TM demo is ready right now on PSN. The GameFront video team, Mitch, Zac and James have already put in a ton of quality time with it, and they’ve delivered video proof of the damage. Sit back and ready your whiplash consultant. Here’s GameFront’s spin behind the wheel of the Twisted Metal Demo for PSN.
Excited about the upcoming Syndicate? Yeah, we are too. Sadly, you’ll have to wait three weeks to really dig in, but if you just can’t wait for the crazy weird reboot of the classic RTS, now reimagined as a first person shooter, you’re in luck. The demo is out now, and the GameFront guys – James, Mitch and Zac – took some time out of their busy schedules to give you a glimpse into it. The result? 22 minutes of Syndicate. Enjoy.
It’s almost February game-sampling time on the Playstation Network. Sony and Eat Sleep Play are pushing through the Twisted Metal demo on Jan. 31.
Also coming Jan. 31: a demo for EA’s first-person shooter reimagining of Syndicate. Both demos will feature multiplayer play — Twisted Metal with you shooting other players, Syndicate with you teaming up with them to shoot digital people, as well as do other horrible and heinous things to them.
Syndicate’s demo is hitting Xbox Live on the same day (and a day later for both in Europe). Guess what, though — no Syndicate demo for PC. That just seems…well, stupid, EA. Just stupid.
We’ve got a date for the beginnings of the Reaper invasion: Feb. 14. That’s when you’ll be able to download the Mass Effect 3 demo and get a taste of things to come.
As I previously speculated, the demo will, in fact, include content we’ve already seen — the opening attack on Earth, which features Commander Shepard and Captain/Ambassador/Councilman Anderson fleeing from an Alliance headquarters building and making their way, with whatever survivors they can find, to waiting evacuation shuttles. We got a taste of this bit at Comic-Con and E3 last year, and it’s a little light on story but heavy on hiding behind cover and the shooting of new classes of husks, including Turian, Krogan and even Batarians, all with their own abilities to make you fear them.
The opening is graphically impressive, with huge Reapers attacking human cities in San Francisco — it’s quite a spectacle. But the demo will also include the controversial multiplayer component that’s being baked into Mass Effect 3. As Electronic Arts’ press release put it: “Players will go deeper into the campaign and also get a taste of the franchise’s new co-operative multiplayer mode as they preview the epic story, adrenaline-pumping action and deep customization options that lie ahead when Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6.”
Renegade X: Black Dawn is inching toward release, and will get significantly closer in 2012 with the release of the game’s single-player demo on Jan. 28. Or so the trailer below says.
If you’re not up to speed, Renegade X is a mod-based spiritual successor to Command & Conquer: Renegade that currently has a beta running on Unreal Tournament 3 — which you can check out on its website right here. Renegade X itself runs on Unreal Engine 3 and looks pretty great; it seems like when the demo hits, we’ll all be treated to quite a nice FPS time.
Try before you buy. It’s a concept we’re entirely behind, and in modern gaming, it’s not out of the ordinary for a demo to release prior to a game’s launch. For Gears of War 3, it’s the opposite.
A demo of the “Shipwreck” mission in Gears of War 3 is now available for download on Xbox Live, exclusive to all Gold subscribers. The mission takes place during the first chapter of the second act on Gumdrop mountain, as Delta squad defends the butterscotch fountain from the evil armies of — okay, you got us. The mission takes place after a shipwreck.
Fancy yourself an on-screen kung fu master? Now is the chance to prove your high-kicking abilities, thanks to a demo for the Kinect-powered Kung-Fu High Impact. Like its PlayStation 3 cousin Kung-Fu Live – which we rather enjoyed – Kung-Fu High Impact transports your image onto the screen, turning your own body into a video game pugilist.
