Demo

Half an hour with an awesome-looking game that isn’t even out yet is a real treat. However, this sneak peek just doesn’t cut it for some players. Savvy Xbox 360 users have found a way to finagle the Crackdown 2 demo to allow more than 30 minutes of play time.

Here’s the scoop:

  1. Start the game
  2. Select your agent
  3. As soon as you select your agent, unplug the 360 from the internet
  4. Follow onscreen prompts
  5. Start new game with frozen 30 minute timer
  6. Reconnect to Xbox Live
  7. Invite co-op buddies!

Warning: Apparantly, if you start up any race events, whether on a rooftop or in a car, it will quit the game, so be careful. Not a bad exchange for unlimited play! it helps make the wait for the Xbox 360 title's July 6 release more bearable.

Enjoy it while you can, I predict you’ll see this story updated with an update that renders this glitch useless soon.

Can’t wait to earn ‘Cheevos for the many, many heads you’ll be busting in Crackdown 2? You can get an early start today — the 1GB demo of the game, now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, features accelerated character leveling, four-player co-op and the ability to start earning Achievements, which will fully unlock when you boot up the retail version of the game, coming July 6.

In addition, the Crackdown 2-themed Facebook game Chuck’s Duck 2 unlocks a new difficulty in the demo and a multiplayer weapon for use in the retail version of the game. Appropriately, said weapon is an exploding, sticky rubber duck. That ought to strike some fear into the hearts of Pacific City’s mutant inhabitants, shouldn’t it?

Is a half hour of Crackdown 2′s mania enough to sell you on a purchase? Ruffian Games and Microsoft seem to think so, Agent. As promised, a 1GB timed demo for the open-world action title has appeared on Xbox Live Marketplace, allowing you to kill and folic with accelerated leveling, co-op functionality, and the chance to unlock achievements earned when the full game is popped into your system tray.

Microsoft has also launched a Facebook app with strong ties to said demo. Chuck’s Ducks 2 (available here) is a “carnival-inspired game” that will feed you an allotment of duck-shaped sticky bombs for use in Crackdown 2′s multiplayer component. Playing Chuck’s Ducks 2 will also unlock a harder difficulty level in the Crackdown 2 demo which is probably neat if you’re into that whole punching-yourself-in-the-leg thing.
