The fact that Square Enix is releasing a transforming arcade game made us nostalgic for the first transforming car robots we encountered as youths. No, not the eponymous Transformers, but rather their oft-overlooked older siblings, the Gobots. Like everything cool in the 80s, the Gobots were originally Japanese, a toy line called “Machine Robo” localized for American consumers by Tonka.
Gobots debuted in American toy stores in 1983, with Hasbro’s competing Transformers line arriving one year later. While time has certainly shown who won this battle of branding prowess, we’ll always have a special place in our dark little hearts for our first experience with transforming Japanese robots.
This week on The TouchArcade Show, we power through topics like Jack LaLanne’s juicer to bring you the latest, hottest, and radicalest in iOS gaming. At the top, we discuss the upcoming iTunes Connect freeze. Later, we dig into new games such as Sin or Win, Sonic CD, and Kinectimals, and much later, we give a few lucky fan e-mailers their moment in the spotlight. Overall, this was a wicked show to do, so we hope you love it.

The BBFC, otherwise known in our circles as the British body that classifies games, has given an 18 rating to the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, which is a thing we’d never heard of before.
In theory, this is a re-release of this year’s popular fighting game with all the DLC included. The BBFC lists a February 17 release date, so I would guess we’ll hear something about this soon, since it’s not like the BBFC is a rumor-mongering organization. A BBFC classification means this is very real.
After waiting months to get their hands on Atlus’s bizarre Catherine, it looks like Europeans will get a little something extra for their trouble. Publisher Deep Silver will release a special “Stray Sheep Edition” of the game for its European launch next year. Like North America’s “Love Is Over” edition, the Stray Sheep edition comes packaged in a pizza box, though the rest of the contents differ significantly (no boxers, for one).
Inside the box, the set includes coasters from the in-game bar, Stray Sheep, an exclusive and “seductive” Catherine poster and a T-shirt designed after that of protagonist Vincent. The Stray Sheep edition will be available for £54.99 when Catherine launches in Europe this coming February.
Tomorrow is Cyber Monday, which as far as we can tell is exactly like a regular Monday except that it’s been augmented with futuristic mechanical enhancements and prosthetic limbs that replace its hands with guns or chainsaws or something. Oh! And there are sales.
Unlike Cyber Monday’s wicked step-sister Black Friday, however, no one has ever been crushed to death waiting for an Amazon Lightning Deal, or received a face full of pepper-spray through their Macbook’s built-in webcam. The event is still an expression of the capitalist American ideals that define our country, but it also proves that ridiculous deals can be found at your desk, rather than at the cost of your personal safety.
What we’re saying is, do yourself a favor. Don’t go to work tomorrow; work is hard. Stay home and shop.
Max Payne 3 isn’t coming out until March, but Rockstar is already getting this thing ready to go with a big, bad, special edition. It’s an impressive looking package, but it’ll only run you $ 99.99. Here’s what you get for that dough.
• A copy of Max Payne 3.
• 10” tall Collectible Max Payne Statue created in a collaboration between TriForce and Rockstar Games.
• Series of game-inspired Original Still Life Art Prints that depict some of Max Payne’s inner demons and vices.
• Copper and brass-plated iron, bullet-shaped Bullet Keychain featuring a screw-off back.
• Classic Multiplayer Character Pack of eight playable multiplayer characters for Max Payne 3 Multiplayer, including fan favorites from the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2 like Max Payne from Max Payne 2, Mona Sax and Vladimir Lem.
• Disorderly Conduct Multiplayer Weapons Pack for Max Payne 3 Multiplayer that includes the Hammerhead Auto Shotgun, G9 Grenade Launcher and Molotov cocktail.
• Max Payne 3 Official Soundtrack featuring the game’s instrumental score.
OK, so it’s light on actual physical items, but that’s OK, because that statue thing is hella cool. I would put that right the hell in front of my TV, for sure. I don’t even care if it would block part of the screen. I don’t care.
