Los Angeles, April 1, 2012 – Game Front announced today that it would launch its groundbreaking GAMEFACTORY® (GF) free-to-play console in North America on April 31, 2012, as part of a worldwide simultaneous launch.

GF is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realized through the combination of Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD processors, in addition to the playability of a vast catalog of software titles that will be available through an innovative “pay per minute” microtransaction business model.

Having Tera-bit Ethernet and two pre-installed hard disk drives (HDD) in RAID as standard in GF, users will have the option to purchase additional features through microtransactions, including read/write ability, audio, and an on/off function.

Equipped with basic input/output ports, GF supports a broad range of displays from conventional full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays to Neuro-Optic Visualization, offering the joy of the most advanced computer entertainment contents to homes around the world. For use in living rooms, bedrooms, and your parents’ basement, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of a purring Japanese Bobtail cat.

The new controller for GF has been created by completely rejecting the world’s most popular console controllers and combining foot pedals with a head-mounted neural interface. The controller for GF employs a high-precision, highly sensitive electrode system that is capable of processing all parameters through human thought, thereby freeing up the user’s hands to eat Nachos (sold separately).

Apart from being the world’s most responsive controller, the neural interface stimulates nerve centers to provide physical feedback to in-game stimulus, found to be non-lethal in 7 out of 10 homeless test subjects.

“The GameFactory is the most powerful console in the world,” said Managing Editor Mark Burnham. “We have no launch titles, and every publisher hates this thing, but that’s EXCITING, you know? The future is here.”

Sold separately, the GAMEFACTORY Visor delivers full 3D throughout its wearer’s complete field of vision by means of Neuro-Optic Visualization, and the GAMEFACTORY Helmet additionally provides noise-cancelling technology, 7.1 surround sound, and complete protection from the gaming-related head injuries that kill 132,000 Americans every year.

A USB-powered beverage cooler comes in two varieties: the GAMEFACTORY Beer Keg and the GAMEFACTORY Wine Decanter, complete with 6-foot fiberglass sipping straw.

The mobile casual gaming worldwide market has the potential to reach $ 7.5 billion by 2015. Smartphone usage is on the rise and so is the prevalence of mobile gaming, according to a report from SuperData.

Asia is currently the largest mobile gaming market, followed closely by the United States. Even though this install base is large, simple feature phones still dominate at a whopping 85 percent.

What’s most interesting in SuperData’s findings is how much money is spent on freemium games that allow players to pay small amounts over time for temporary unlockable items. Female gamers ages 25-34 spend an average of $ 12.92 a month on micro-transactions which is $ 5.12 more than men in the same age group.

While in-app purchases are on the rise, ad revenue is still the major money-maker for mobile products. Angry Birds on Android makes $ 1-6 million per month purely from ads.

Update: Tiny Tower data removed as NimbleBit has never officially released that information.

10 Gaming Tattoos You’ll Never See

by Salat on March 27, 2012 · 0 comments

In much the same way that tattoos were once associated exclusively with bikers and criminals, games were once associated exclusively with nerds and social outcasts. Over the course of the last two decades, however, both have become ubiquitous. In 2012, games — and tattoos — are for everyone!

Coupled with the rise of games and tattoos has been the rise of, well, gaming tattoos. Game-inspired body art ranges from Final Fantasy’s Cactaur King to Damon Baird from Gears of War. Bioware founder Greg Zeschuk even got in on the action with this SWTOR-inspired piece. Last but not least, check out GameFront writer Ross Lincoln’s awesome
Mario/Sacred Heart mash-up.

Still, despite the profusion of gaming tattoos, and the many different games that inspire them, there are some gaming tattoos that you will never, ever see.

10. Alpha Protocol

Love it. Hate it. People weren’t sure exactly what to make of Alpha Protocol. When you take a confusing concept and marry it to a generic art style, bad things happen. I love Obsidian, but I don’t see anyone getting a tattoo of super-vanilla protagonist Michael Thorton anytime soon.

9. Leisure Suit Larry

What, you don’t want a picture of a horny, balding midget permanently attached to your body? What are you, some kind of freak?

8. Zoo Tycoon

Isn’t the idea of being a “Zoo Tycoon” essentially ridiculous? Are there really moustache-twirling millionaires out there, raking in the proceeds from their for-profit zoos? Assuming that the core audience for this game is middle-aged women who don’t care for farming or roller coasters (and kids), I think we can rule out the possibility of body art.

7. Brutal: Paws of Fury

This early-nineties fighting game, featuring anthropomorphic animals as combatants, is largely forgotten. Except by furries. But you can’t see their tattoos underneath the fursuits.

6. Superman 64

Widely regarded as the ugliest game of all time, I doubt Superman 64 will inspire any ink. In fact, I think you need superhuman Kryptonian vision to even look at screenshots without feeling nauseous.

Certain games make for excellent viewing sports, and if you’d like to see pros go at it with live commentary, tune in to the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. StarCraft 2, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike are on the schedule, so whether you’re into FPS, RTS, or MOBA action, there’s something for you.

Tune in to the live stream here.

I’m a StarCraft 2 man, myself, and while I’m not the best player, I love watching pros go at it. Of course, the eSport scene would be nothing without talented casters like Day 9, Diggity, and TotalBiscuit. Last summer, we interviewed veteran caster Diggity about his thoughts on eSports; be sure to check it out.

In twelve days, ROCCAT Studios plans to wow us with what it believes to be the “smartest way forward” for PC gaming.

A teaser website the company put up asks the question, “Isn’t PC gaming dead?” For years, we’ve been told that PC gaming is dead, when in fact a quick glance at Steam numbers would tell you it’s very much alive.

The website goes on to say,

With all the talk lately, you’d think PC gaming was over. Some say PC gaming isn’t dead, but think they need to breathe new life into it now and then with yet another “groundbreaking” reinvention. But is all that necessary?

Rhetorical questions are a dime a dozen, but ROCCAT finishes by promising an answer:

Soon we’ll tell you what we think is the smartest way forward.

A countdown timer implies the answer will come in 12 days, 6 hours, and 34 minutes — as of this posting.

In the website’s Shoutbox, someone posted the following under the name Razer (censorship our own):

f*** off ****** i decide when gaming is dead and release a expensive laptop

The poster is, of course, referencing Razer’s Blade gaming laptop. As much as I love Razer, gaming laptops isn’t the answer, so I’m eager to see what ROCCAT has up its sleeve.

Any guesses?
