Heroes and Heralds mode, one of Capcom’s biggest power plays to convince Marvel vs. Capcom 3 veterans that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would be worth their time and dollars, has finally been delivered to patiently punching patrons the world over. In this new mode, players can either fight to save the Earth from Galactus and his cosmic crew of ne’er-do-wells, or join said group of miscreants and work towards the planet’s inevitable chomping.
The mode’s big selling point, beyond the shiny silver costumes of course, is the new Ability Card mechanic, which allows players to equip their characters with cards that provide ridiculous and otherwise unobtainable power-ups, such as an X-Factor burst or projectile immunity. Ability Cards are limited to the online and offline versions of Heroes and Heralds, however, so purists need not worry about the numerous balance implications inherent to the system.
The patch also fixes several game breaking bugs, including Wolverine’s Spencer-assisted Swiss Cheese infinite combo and the Reverse World, as seen in the video above. Most importantly, the “tech throws whenever you want, don’t even worry about it” glitch has been corrected, much to the dismay of Wesker haters everywhere.
If you’re playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on a console, I have some relatively good news for you: Patch 1.3 for the game has cleared Microsoft’s approval and is available on Xbox Live right now. On Playstation 3, the patch is still awaiting approval, but is imminent.
Meanwhile, those of us playing on PC will be happy to hear that yes, Bethesda is working on a Large Address Aware patch that will allow the game to use up to 4GB of system memory instead of getting capped at 2GB (and thus spontaneously quitting to the desktop for some players). Bethesda says in its blog that it’s testing that patch right now, with more details forthcoming soon. A previous patch for Skyrim killed a third-party LAA patch, so it’ll be nice to get that back. Bethesda says we can expect that patch next week.
Here’s a list of what’s going into patch 1.3:
General stability improvements
Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPUs (PC)
Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles
Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly
Fixed issue with placing books on bookshelves inside player purchased homes
Fixed dragon animation issues with saving and loading
Fixed Y-look input to scale correctly with framerate
This is a twist I wasn’t expecting — Xbox is partnering with Cafepress to make it so you can buy a t-shirt or coffee mug or duffel bag or whatever that has a picture of your Xbox Live avatar on it. It’s quite ridiculous. Why would you want this? I don’t get the appeal of this at all, but there must be a survey somewhere that says there is interest in it. There must be, right?
Here’s a picture of my avatar on a t-shirt.
I just… I don’t know what the deal is with this. This is downright exasperating. Sigh.
To get your avatar on a t-shirt, go here and enter your gamertag. And then be baffled by why anyone would think this was a good idea.
3DS users are reporting the latest, delayed firmware update is now rolling out. The system update adds 3D video capture; DLC support; the option to transfer your data to another 3DS console; and new content for Mii Plaza. GiantBomb notes the new Mii Plaza content includes a list of achievement-like “accomplishments”, although they don’t link to your user profile, and apparently haven’t appeared in any other titles.
EVE Online: Crucible has been deployed to Tranquility and players are enjoying the new visuals, return of engine trails and hundreds of in game improvements. Have you tried it out yet? If not, perhaps you should check out the latest EVE Online trailer. This trailer was made with real EVE players and the video team would like to thank them for all of their help.
At Blizzcon in August, Blizzard rolled out a whole new concept for talents in World of Warcraft. While they did spend a lot of time explaining the new system, we hadn’t gotten a chance to actually play with them yet. Luckily, that’s all about to change.
In a show of sympathy for WoW player dying to start toying with talents builds, Blizzard has released the new talent calculator for the Mists of Pandaria expansion. Obviously, these talents are not final, so don’t get too attached to any of them just yet.
Head on over to the official World of Warcraft site to start sorting out your talent builds. It’ll give you something to while you digest all that turkey!
