Reuters is reporting that Microsoft are in talks with media companies about bringing an online subscription cable-like service to Xbox 360.
Not many details are known, but the company is thought to be planning a pay monthly service for “a ‘virtual cable operator’ delivered over the Internet.”
It’s also thought Microsoft are going to bring out “content silos” for premium US channels HBO and Primetime.
Reuters’ sources say any service won’t be arriving for at least another year.
Microsoft have refused to comment.
In the UK, the only thing similar to a cable service for Xbox 360 is Sky Player, which provides live TV and catch-up services for its channels.

Keeping to the regular update schedule promised before converting the Lord of the Rings Online to a free-to-play, publisher Turbine pushed out the November update today. This new patch includes some overhauls to the game’s crafting system as well as tweaks to two existing character classes.
Along with these big changes there is a new Yule-festival set for December release and for long time players you may want to revisit the Dwarf and ELf starting zones. These two areas, like the hobbit and human zones have gotten optimized and refreshed to make jumping into the game easier.
The new free content includes all the zones included in Moria, Lothlorien and Mirkwood and the ability to play up to the level 65 cap without buying an upgrade or subscribing. Quest packs and skirmish play in these regions may still require purchase but the artificial barrier to entry is now removed.

Even though Fallout: New Vegas is soaking up a lot of attention these days, Interplay wants to remind players that there's more Fallout action coming in 2012. The Fallout Online developers have released the Armageddon Rag #3, three short texts of various transmissions from the wasteland.
Featured on the game's site, each of the three installments offers up a neat little slice of the game's fiction. There's not much game info (or any, come to think of it), but they feature ghouls, a little gunplay, and a pretty funny section riffing on the unnamed heroes from the first few games. Better still, they're all short and sweet–heck, even Dan and his flea-sized attention span could work through them.
Thanks for the tip, Alexander!

A recent slip-up on the Verizon website revealed the HTC Merge for all to see. This rumored handset offers a few interesting features for customers of Big Red, and its release can’t be too far away. The Merge is a QWERTY Slider with a spacious keyboard. The touchscreen is 3.8-inches; likely the same WVGA panel as on the MyTouch 4G. We are also expecting a 800MHz Snapdragon CPU identical to the one in the T-Mobile G2.
While all that sounds fine, some users will be put off by the apparent decision to replace Google search with Bing. This is not the first Android phone Verizon has changed in this way. It appears to be any Android device that does not carry the Droid branding that gets Binged. Verizon quickly pulled down the Merge images, but they are preserved on the internet for you to salivate over if you need a new QWERTY slider on Big Red.
