Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream won the Best New IP and Independent Studio awards at this week’s European-specific Develop Awards in Brighton, joining Rocksteady Studios and Hello Games as this year’s only multiple award winning game developers of the show. No, ex-Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires) employees won't be playing with D-Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, but they will be working alongside Microsoft once again.

Kotaku reports that Robot Entertainment — made up of ex-Ensemble people — is working on a game for its old partner Microsoft codenamed Spartan.

In 2009 the company was dissolved by parent company Microsoft despite being at the height of its powers with the Age of Empires series and the release of Halo Wars. Despite this seemingly rocky past, at least some who used to be at Ensemble obviously want to make sweet, sweet music with Microsoft again.

Activision-owned studios are to concentrate on only one new title at a time, according to new comments made by worldwide studios executive vice president Dave Stohl.

“You’ve really got to focus”, said Stohl in an interview with website Joystiq at E3. “People want the freedom to put all their resources against the big opportunity, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Stohl suggests that Activision’s increasing focus on “big cross-platform launches in all territories with massive network support on the backend” also favours a one game per studio approach. “So the opportunities and projects are just bigger; they’re more challenging. And it absolutely takes focus. I mean, it really does,” he said.
