MonkeyPaw Games/Gaijinworks Kickstarter – but at the same time, you may not know a whole lot about the specific game being Kickstarted,

Star Command is estimated to launch this July or August, according to the co-founders of developer Warballoon. The game, which had its first public showing this past weekend at PAX East, will launch with the “Rise of Antorians” story, followed by the “Cortexian Campaign” in October.
Warballoon co-founders Justin and Jordan Coombs told us updates will be free for the game, as they plan to expand the Star Command universe and want to bring everyone along for the ride.
The PAX East demo showed off how combat in the game works, as Antorians (a humanoid ant race) invaded the ship and started a blaster fight with the crew. The Antorian ship also got into the action and attacked, while members of the engineering crew had to handle fires and loss of cabin pressure. The Warballoon team already told us they are switching to a far more context-sensitive interface system after observing players at PAX East.
The game is also officially heading to iPad, since the team ported it to the platform after realizing they didn’t want to pass around their personal phones to demo the game at the show.

Remember the news on Wednesday that New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment is working on an unspecified Kickstarter Project? Kind of baffling at the time, I speculated that since it probably wasn’t some kind of desperate ploy (they are working on South park: The Game, after all), maybe they’re jumping on the ‘revive long dead gaming franchises’ bandwagon. Shockingly, it turns out I was absolutely right, and it’s even better than I thought. Obsidian want so to be involved in Brian Fargo’s attempt to bring Wasteland 2 into the world.
Yes, you read that right. Confirming the news, Brian Fargo told Rock, Paper, Shot gun that “I have a history with the guys at Obsidian that dates back to the days of Interplay’s Black Isle studios. Together we created some of the greatest RPG’s of all time, from Fallout 1 & 2 to titles like Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. It is great that we now have a chance to reunite on a project like Wasteland 2.” Hang on, I need to wipe the drool off my keyboard.
OK, done. Now, there’s only one catch: The Wasteland 2 Kickstarter, already at $ 1,812,814, needs to raise 2.1 million dollars in the next 16 days for Obsidian to join. Which is to say, we are so damned close. So if you want to see Wasteland 2 brought to you by a Voltron composed of the people who brought us Wasteland, Planescape and numerous Fallout games, you know what to do.
