Stolen Couch Games‘ tactical RPG Kids vs Goblins has been getting a lot of traction on our message board for good reason: it looks hot. In the game, you’ll control three kids with up to 80 different spells on a quest that’ll see them exploring a total of seven unique environments. As you’ll see in the new trailer below, the spell system takes a cue from Magicka; it encourages users to combine individual spells and then exploit the combined power in order to progress and beat up waves of bad dudes. There seems to be a fair bit of standard action RPG-ery, too.

Kids vs Goblins is being published by Crescent Moon Games, and is expected to hit the iPad first later this February. In the game’s message board thread, the publisher has noted that Apple has it in its hands right now, so it’s just a matter of approval. We’ll continue keeping our eye on this one, for sure.

We’re pretty dubious of any time-travel methods that don’t involve police boxes from the 1960s, but Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s horcrux Historia Crux and time gates look like a fairly stable, albeit significantly less British, way to traverse the annals of history.

Dustforce — Steam Launch Trailer

by Salat on January 18, 2012 · 0 comments

Indie platformer Dustforce is now available on Steam, a game that makes being a janitor as exciting as being a ninja. I love games with acrobatic free-running, and while Mirror’s Edge may have lent evidence to the belief that this style of game simply doesn’t work in a first-person perspective, it’s right at home in a side-scroller.

GameFront writer Phil Hornshaw reviewed Dustforce, and while he found it could, at times, be frustratingly difficult, he applauded the intricate level design, the soundtrack, and the abundance of content.

For $ 10, Dustforce is definitely worth checking out! To quote Phil, “Buy it. Buy it now.”

Have you ever seen The Last Samurai? Good news if you have: you’ve already caught up on the story of the upcoming Shogun 2 expansion Fall of the Samurai. It’s about an American coming to Japan in the 1800s to help teach them about guns and– yep, you’ve heard this one before. Even so, you should watch this trailer.

Now, if you pre-order this expansion, you’ll get one of three exclusive clans: the Saga clan, the Tsu clan and the Obama clan. Yeah, that Obama.

The Secret World Illuminati Trailer

by Salat on January 14, 2012 · 0 comments

It would be easy for us to forget while we obsess over Star Wars: The Old Republic that there are other MMOs out now and on the way. One of the MMOs that’s on the way is FunCom’s The Secret World, and to remind us all that it exists is a new trailer that focuses on the Illuminati. It’s pretty sweet, and it ends with a special cocktail recipe. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Holy s–t. Binary Domain, coming out February 28, hasn’t really been on my radar, but apparently it should have been, because this trailer I’m about to show you is totally and ridiculously awesome. It looks like THE Japanese game to play this year. I’ll just have to get over my annoyance with shooters to play it, though. We’ll see how things are going next month.
