Week

When it comes to MMO news and special features, Joystiq sister site Massively.com has you covered. Whether you’re looking for info on the hottest new MMO, or you’re just curious about an old favorite, you’ll find it at Massively. Check out our biggest features of the week:

Final Fantasy XIV not due for the Xbox 360 according to Hiromichi Tanaka
Final Fantasy XI isn’t just one of the only console MMOs in existence, it’s also the most successful of the lot, due in part to the wide spread of available platforms. Since the game has long been playable on the Xbox, there were several Final Fantasy XIV fans (or Xbox 360 owners) hoping it would eventually come out on that console as well. But it’s not happening, and according to a recently translated interview from 4players.de, the reason rests squarely with Microsoft.
ArenaNet unveils the Guild Wars 2 ranger
Speculation was all over the map: necromancer was a popular choice thanks to the recent sneak peek of Ghosts of Ascalon. Mesmers and some sort of paladin class were suggested, as well as rangers. Things got even more interesting on Monday, when ArenaNet teased the upcoming reveal of a new class. Well, it looks like rangers won out — ArenaNet announced the ranger class for Guild Wars 2 today.
Massively Speaking Podcast Episode 107: A chat with Felicia Day
Massively Speaking Episode 107 is a very special episode in which Rubi and Shawn are joined by Felicia Day, creator and star of the hit web series, The Guild. Topics include her work on Guild Wars 2′s trailer, her MMO inspirations and much more. Plus, we also tackle the week’s news, including the possibility of STO going free-to-play and the whole Real ID fiasco.

destination arcade

Microsoft has announced via The Major’s blog Destination Arcade’s release has been moved to next Wednesday, instead of tomorrow, in order to coincide with the Summer of Arcade’s launch.

Stating on July 21, Limbo will be the first title available, followed by Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Castlevania Harmony of Despair, Monday Night Combat and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light finishing everything off.

Destination Arcade will only be available in the US, and The Major has said the App will only last until the Summer of Arcade promotion ends August 18, after which you will ” be unable to use it”.

While it seems a bit odd, killing a nice looking App like that, luckily it’s not available outside the US, lest the rest of the world would get reamed as well.

However, if comments on our site are any indication, you guys didn’t much like the looks of it anyway.

Week In Review: 07/10

by Salat on July 10, 2010 · 0 comments

This week we revealed August's cover story, Dragon Age 2, and made you laugh with a couple of humorous features. It's time for Week In Review!

Here were this week's top ten Game Informer exclusives:

August Cover Revealed:
This week we pleasantly surprised fantasy RPG fans with the reveal of our cover story, Dragon Age 2. Well, except for the fans who convinced themselves that we had somehow promised them an Elder Scrolls V announcement. They were pretty disappointed. In addition to covering BioWare's next epic RPG (we're still talking Dragon Age 2 here, I'm not hinting at Mass Effect 3 or anything), August's issue features our list of E3's 50 hottest games, and breaks down what to expect from Kinect, Move, and the 3DS.

Dragon Age 2 Hub Is Live:
Want to know what comes with a Dragon Age 2 cover story? A month of Tim Turi calling the game "Dragon Eggs 2." Also, a month of exclusive bonus features delivered via our Dragon Eggs Age 2 hub. So far we've already revealed some exclusive first details about the game, as well as five facts about the game's main protagonist, Hawke. Here's a bonus sixth fact: He is in no way related to the crooning safe-cracker Hudson Hawk. You heard it here first, folks.

GI Reveals The Names Of The Next 5 Castlevania Games:
Let's face it: As great as they are, recent Castlevania games all sound like they were named by a crazy person. We here at GI have plenty of crazy people too, and this week Matt Helgeson did an impressive job of making up titles that would fit right in with the series. My favorite? Requiem of Constipation. That's the saddest requiem of them all.

Games The Characters Of Twilight Would Like:
This week I came up with a list of video game recommendations for the fictional characters of Twilight. My goal? To cram in as many zingers and insults as I possibly could in one feature. The biggest surprise though, is the number of people saying I've sold out by covering Twilight. You guys did read the article, right?

The Eight Most Disappointing Games Of Our Time:
Ben single-handedly bummed out the whole GI crew this week by coming up with a list of gaming's biggest let downs. Thanks a lot, Ben.

Overheard #10:
It's been a long time since Annette posted a new edition of Overheard, but this one makes up for the hiatus. It's filled with some of the most ludicrous utterances ever spoken in this office, plus some things that people other than Dan Ryckert said.

7 Video Game Shirts You Should Never Wear:
This week Reiner put together a photo blog with video game shirts that are totally lame. That's just his opinion though, so if you really like your "I got mad bills" shirt, keep on wearing it!

BC 2 Live Journal: Onslaught Mode:
This week four GI editors took up arms and tried out Bad Company 2's new Onslaught mode. How did we do? Not as bad as Reiner makes me sound, that's for *** sure…

Rants 'N Raves: Crackdown 2:
When Reiner wasn't busy distorting my venerable BC 2 service record, he took the time to write up his thoughts on Crackdown 2. Talk about disappointing games of our time.

Video Games LeBron James Should Have Joined:
Yesterday Americans across the country sat through an hour-long press conference (well, half of it at least) to find out what team LeBron James was going to play for. Dan Ryckert thought joining the Miami Heat was a big mistake. In fact, he thought joining any basketball team was a mistake; he thinks LeBron should have joined a video game franchise instead. The rest of us at GI realize that's impossible, but we let Dan live out his fantasy anyway – he's at his happiest when he's photoshopping crazy images.
